During the nearly ten years that I have been actively addressing my mental health, I have observed a type of trend. Whenever I come across something in my reading on mental health. That helps other people on their path to recovery, I can’t help but scoff at how pointless it appears. 

Subsequently, after several months or occasionally years, the same idea seems to make perfect sense.I feel like I’ve finally grasped the concept of setting intentions, but this has probably happened with hundreds of things. Setting intentions used to feel to me like making goals, which is something I’ve never been good at. Because of my perfectionism.

 I feel like a total failure when I make a goal and don’t accomplish it. Rather than addressing my perfectionism, I’ve just given up on making objectives.Setting intentions felt, for a long while, like just another goal-setting exercise that would make me feel even more anxious. However, I had a breakthrough after years of turning up my nose. 

Because the emphasis is on being intentional, setting intentions differs from setting goals. It’s about directing your attention towards a particular aspect of your life rather than allowing things to happen to you.

Many friends, family members, and therapists have attempted to explain this viewpoint to me, but I was unable to see it for a very long time. I just wasn’t prepared to hear it at the time.

Only when we’re ready can we heal

The process of healing necessitates a deep realisation that one’s interior wounds require care and attention. The maxim, Only when we’re ready can we heal, sums up the essential elements of both individual and group healing. It suggests that the timing of starting the path towards recovery and one’s emotional, psychological, and even physical states interact critically.

People have told me on countless occasions that healing can only begin when the patient is willing to put in the necessary effort. You cannot make them change for the better in their lives. Though I was constantly reminded of this message, there was a part of me that genuinely believed. 

I could persuade others to recover and get better by simply saying and doing appropriately. I think this stems from my past experiences having to co-manage my parents’ emotions. For a very long time, it felt normal to me that as a child, I had to say and do the proper thing in order to keep my worth.

I’ve been attempting to unlearn this lately. Realising that there had been instances when people had attempted to force me to repair particular areas before I was ready was a major turning point in my life.

It’s crucial to set aside enough time for it

It takes time, patience, and self-compassion to heal oneself. 

  • A complete and long-lasting recovery depends on allowing oneself enough time to prepare for healing. Whether one is recovering from bodily wounds, emotional wounds, or spiritual difficulties.
  • Being mentally and emotionally equipped to face our inner complexity is what it means to be ready. 
  • It calls for an open assessment of our weaknesses, acceptance of the wounds we bear, and a readiness to experience the discomfort that comes with healing frequently.

This level of readiness is dynamic and ever-changing as we develop and evolve, rather than static. It necessitates reflection, self-awareness, and a willingness to confront realities that may have been long hidden. Seeking to heal before one is ready might be likened to treating a wound without first thoroughly cleaning it.

While band-aid solutions may provide short-term solace, the underlying problems continue. In order to truly heal, one must have a thorough grasp of the situation, be dedicated to the healing process, accept that it’s alright to not feel okay, and ask for help when necessary.

First and foremost, it’s important to recognize that healing is necessary. It’s an acknowledgment that something inside of us needs healing, tending, and attention. It can be detrimental to rush this process since it could result in band-aid solutions, rather than dealing with the underlying causes of our suffering. 

A more thorough and successful healing process is possible. When we give ourselves the time to comprehend the extent of our wounds.

How long is right for recovery

We have time to consider the lessons that lie beneath our difficulties.
